Bad News and More Bad News

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Hiya everyone,

I have been having a bad week — maybe not too bad, but it was bad. First, my laptop’s wifi would not connect. It would recognize that there would be wireless networks to connect to. But, it would not connect at all. My dad thinks the laptop’s wifi card got fried. So, my dad took it to the Toshiba laptop on Saturday (July 25th) and got it back on Wednesday (July 29th). I started it today and everything worked fine. My wifi connected and whatnot. I decided to install back my programs, but when I restarted it, the laptop’s wifi would not connect back. =( So, we might take it back to the shop if we can’t figure out what happened.

During the time of being laptop less, which also means I am internet less, I felt so bored. Ha, so much of my time was on the internet. But, I actually studied for my final (the non-take-home one) and felt it was not that hard.

Also, my roommate and I moved to a new apartment to a place for cheaper rent and better neighborhood. We moved to an apartment that is kind of far. We have to take the bus (I mean, we could walk but it would take like an hour to two hours). Moving was a hassle and cleaning up the old apartment. I will upload pictures later hopefully when I have time.

Well, my first summer session just ended. I am supposed to have a 3-day weekend before my second session starts. But, I still have work to do. Why? Because one of my classes assigned a take-home final exam due on August 3rd. As much as that is nice, it’s still a lot because the professor assigned three essays to do. He also gave us a chance for extra credit. I hope to do it all so it would take all my time on the weekend (at least, the majority).

So, that’s it for now. I have ton of work to do. Have a good weekend, everyone.

Also, I am still hosting the contest: =)

Anime Expo 2009

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

Hi everyone,

So, as the title of the entry explains, anime expo 2009 has come. I will talk about most of what I did, so it may be kind of long. At first, I didn’t have any pictures to add because I didn’t take any pictures and was to lazy. But, in the last minute, I decided to take pictures of the free things I received. I have the memories kept in my brain though – and on this blog entry.

I started on Thursday as a volunteer (my sisters and cousin started a day before me because I had school and work on Wednesday). I did not know what to do, and found another person in the same boat as me. I started to talk to him. We did most of volunteering together. It was fun. He was really nice and funny. We were really hungry too. We kept going crazy for food. For the first shift, I had to direct people to the registration lines. There were so many people! But, it was tiring at the same time. Another shift I had to do was checking if people had badges before they could enter certain rooms. Overall, the whole day I volunteered 7 hours (I needed 8 for 2 days pass – 4 hours equals to 1 day pass; I was trying to get Friday and Saturday). Volunteering was not that bad. It was pretty cool, and you get to meet new people. Although at times, it was a bit disorganized because there were so many people volunteering and wanting shifts.

I received two badges – for two days. For the Friday one, they misspelled my last name (“Gah” – nothing close to the original). And, the Saturday one, they misspelled my first name (“Jammie”). It’s not a big deal, but I thought it was funny.

So, Friday came around. I had to work one more hour, but ended up working three hours. Luckily, my friend (the one I met on Thursday) came by (he had finished his 8 hours on Thursday) and gave me food. Cheap breakfast. After that, I went to find my sisters and we went to the exhibit hall (the place where all the vendors were). I met up with my friend again. My sisters ditched me, and left me alone with him. Thus, I spent the whole day with him. We mostly spent our time in the exhibit hall. Our feets ached. We missed most of the main events because they did not appeal to us or it had already passed. It was fun hanging out with him since I found out we had a lot in common. However, he kind of lives faraway so I doubt I would ever see him again. At the end, we went to the Evangelion 1.0 preview screening. It was really cool even though it was dubbed in English. Apparently, it’s the first part of the movie. I am not really sure. But, I thought it was good and wanted to see more. I saw the series when I was younger, but I don’t really remember most of it. After that, we left.

My friend and I were looking for that Aurora bag for a long time (the one in red border). He kept asking several people where to get it. But, each time, the directions were fuzzy because people did not really remember where they got it from.  I began to think the bag didn’t exist! But, in the end we found it and surprisingly, we had passed that booth several times. XD

There were lots of big and small posters that were given out for free. I took these. The Naruto one actually expands but I was too lazy to open it. Plus, there is no Sasuke. xP

Next, Satuday came. I hung out with my sister. My other sister couldn’t make it – she had work. We went to a Photoshop Coloring Workshop. It was pretty cool. I never really took a “formal” Photoshop class – mostly learned things by experimenting and online tutorials. But, the artist who was showing us the coloring, Christina Strain, was funny and entertaining. It made me want to color in Photoshop. After the workshop, we went to the exhibit hall. It mostly the same things as Friday’s. After browsing around for a while, we went to a Power Rangers Reunion Panel. It brought back so many childhood memories. I remembered most of the actors who were there, though unfortunately, my favorite (Johnny Young Bosch who played Adam) wasn’t there. But, it was still cool. It was mostly Questions and Answers asked by the attendees. After the panel, we went back to the exhibit hall once more before it was going to close.  We saw a mini special live of the girl band, C-Zone. They performed 3 songs.  Someone already uploaded a short performance of them on Youtube. I was actually standing near the person who recorded that because I was at that same angle. XD It was nice. I never heard of them. Then, we browsed around some more and went home.

Unfortunately, I did not buy anything. I didn’t really find anything good and cheap. There were lots of expensive things. Sadly, the trip did have some bad times. My other cell phone charm broke off and can’t be reattached. Another thing was that my friend lost his camera which totally sucks since we took lots of funny pictures.

Overall, the trip was cool except for the bad things. I went for “free”, having only to paid with my time and labor. I would definitely do it again next year or so.

EDIT on July 5th, 2009 at 8:36PM: I just wanted to plug in my new contest! Please take a look at:
